Park offers a myriad of activities for you to enjoy. The hardest part may
be choosing which auto tour, trail, waterfall, overlook, or historic area
to explore!

Blue Ridge Parkway (see

Outstanding scenery and recreational opportunities make the Blue Ridge Parkway
one of the most popular units of the National Park System. "America's
Favorite Drive" winds its way 469 miles through mountain meadows and
past seemingly endless vistas. Split-rail fences, old farmsteads and historic
structures complement spectacular views of distant mountains and neighboring
valleys.
Great
Smoky Mountains Railroad
With 53 miles of track, 2 tunnels and 25 bridges, the Great Smoky Mountains
Railroad offers a variety of excursions that explore the amazing landscape
of Western North Carolina. With the romance and mystique of an era gone by,
guests on-board the Great Smoky Mountains Railroad will enjoy scenic train
journeys across fertile valleys and through river gorges in a spectacular
region near The Great Smoky Mountains.
Cataloochee
Cataloochee Valley is nestled among some of the most rugged mountains in the
southeastern United States. Surrounded by 6000-foot peaks, this isolated valley
was the largest and most prosperous settlement in what is now the Great Smoky
Mountains National Park. Once known for its farms and orchards, today Cataloochee
is one of the most picturesque areas of the park.

Farm Museum
Oconaluftee offers both a visitor center and the Mountain Farm Museum—a
collection of historic log buildings gathered from throughout the Smoky Mountains
and preserved on a single site. Buildings include a house, barn, applehouse,
springhouse, and smokehouse.
Mingus
Mill
The historic Mingus Mill, located in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park,
preserves the centerpiece of a mountain farming community. Built in 1886 by
German immigrant John Mingus, the Mingus Mill uses a water-powered turbine
instead of a water wheel to power all of the machinery in the building.
Ghost
Town
Located at the top of this mountain, in Maggie Valley, North Carolina, is
a mile high fun center with an old west setting. To get to the top you must
either ride a chair lift, or a railway tram and this is an adventure in itself.
When you go to Ghost Town you can fulfill all your fantasies of visiting a
wild west town complete with bank robberies, jail breaks, and gun fights.
Visit the Silver Dollar Saloon and watch the Can Can Dancers perform while
you eat lunch.

Through Time American Transportation Museum
Visit America's premier collection of rare and significant American motorcycles
for a special weekend opening this August 14-16. With countless new machines
at the museum this year, the staff at WTT will be giving regular demonstrations
and exhibitions of several rare machines unseen since the their glory days
during decades gone by.

of the Cherokee Indian
Located on tribal land in the Great Smoky Mountains, this non-profit organization
tells the story of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, whose ancestors lived
in these mountains for more than ten thousand years. |
